I read the power of habit years ago and surprisingly really enjoyed it (I'm an unapologetic self-help hater). Not a self help book but LOVED "maybe you should talk to someone" — have been using it to convince everyone in my life to get therapy
I loved True Refuge by Tara Brach! Also anything Elizabeth Gilbert writes is my bible. I love her “letters from love” series on here, it’s helped me find peace and connect with myself more than anything else
Brené Brown's books, especially "Braving the Wilderness. "On Our Best Behavior," by Elise Loehnen, which I give 5 stars for helping women recognize how we've been conditioned to want to be good and feel as if we're always failing. 👌
William James’s, “The Varieties of Religious Experience” was recommended to me at a very pivotal moment in my life back in the late 90’s (when early-30’s me was on an intense personal journey and searching for some deeper meaning and purpose in life).
While it was first published in 1902 and might seem a bit dated, James is such a profoundly gifted writer his prose effortlessly conveys some of the most essential and meaningful spiritual concepts you could ever hope to run across.
Wow sounds super interesting, thank you for sharing! I’ve never heard of this book but this sounds like something I would love to explore, definitely on my reading list now
This might sound a bit cliche, but for me it was the Bible. It’s so deep and complex that I haven’t been able to finish it all. But I read a bit differently, if there’s something I don’t understand I whine and whine and whine to the Holy Spirit until he explains it to me, and then he does. Makes everything much deeper and life changing.

Putting these on my list! I feel like I'm so head in the clouds that connection is just what I would need right now

I love your take on this, it makes me think about how I read self-help books
Next time trying to remember to approach the learnings as a practice of understanding why rather than taking it at face value
Thank you for sharing <3
